Green Horses and Horses With Behavioral Problems

Terry loves to work with horses but knows that in order for the rider to achieve the desired results, it is the rider who needs to do the work.  Horses that buck, bolt, kick, bite, are hard to trailer or difficult to mount are horses telling the rider, “I don’t trust you”.

Terry can work with the horse and rider to achieve the trust that is necessary to have a safe and mutually satisfactory relationship.

Horses that are hard to catch, barn sour, buddy sour, uncooperative, spooky, or just plain ornery, can be helped. Sessions can occur at your barn or Terry’s ranch, in an arena or on the trail.

Need a hand with a green horse?  Terry and her horse Rocket can accompany you on the trail giving both you and your horse the confidence necessary for a safe and pleasant ride.

Fees are based on time and travel costs. The fee for working with Terry at her ranch is $50 for the first hour and $30 each addition hour (including follow up sessions). The average cost is $75 to $120 to solve the problems mentioned above.

Call or email Terry for more information or to set up an appointment.

The Horse Course

Learning Horsemanship using natural, gentle and progressive training methods.

The days of "breaking horses" are over. Learn Horsemanship by learning the basics of natural training methods. Round penning, desensitizing and teaching the horse how to lead, ride, load in a trailer, have respect for and like people.
Students take an untrained horse and with Terry's instruction, learn how to train horses in basic western riding. Students must commit to a minimum three month training course. No prior horse experience is necessary. Students need to be a minimum of 18 years-old and be able to walk unassisted for up to two hours. There is no upper age limit. Classes are held Wednesday and Saturday mornings from 9:00 am to about noon or 1:00 pm. Although students are greatly encouraged to attent both classes, only one training per week is required to be in the program. Students will be assigned an untrained horse. Terry will work with the horse during the week but students will only work with the horse that they are assigned.
The goal of the program is to give people a greater understanding of horses while taking previously untrained horses and creating saddle horses from them. Students are not required to actully get on the horses they train but the students will be asked to train and teach the horse everything leading up to actual riding. Students may teach their horse to ride if the student feels comfortable doing so. However, the safety of the student is paramount and students will not be allowed to get on horses thought to be unsafe.
After training is completed horses will be offered for sale. Students will have the first opportunity to buy the horses that they train.

This three month long training program starts March 20th, 2010 and is limited to 5 students. Cost of the program is $35 per session which lasts from 2 to 4 hours. Sessions can be paid weekly or monthly. For your convenience, we take both Visa and MasterCard.
If interested in our program or in one of our horses after traing is completed please contact Terry.

The untrained horses currently looking for students are:

Piper
Ripley
Justice
Artuur and Raabu
Zeus

Piper

Piper

4 year-old registered breeding stock Paint mare. Chestnut. Beautiful, feminine head and willing-to-please attitude. This is a down-to-earth mare that will be a very level headed Western Pleasure horse. Probably not a speed event prospect, but a good, all-round, nice-looking, level-headed youngster. Should mature in the 14.2 hh range.
Piper will be offered for sale in July, 2010

Ripley

Ripley

Coming two-year-old grade quarter horse gelding. Seal brown. Will be a big, stocky, good-looking horse. Loves people, assertive with other horses, he may be someone's big trail partner or competitive cow horse. Ripley is too young to train to ride but can be schooled in everything else. Ripley should mature in the 14.3 - 15.1 hh range and be very stout.
Ripley will be offered for sale in April, 2010

Justice

Justice

APHA registered black tobiano gelding. This flashy black and white paint gelding is coming five years old. He's never been trained to ride but he does lead very nicely and loves people. He isn't going to be a fast horse, but he is a very pretty one whose calm, laid back attitude will go over very well as a trail or western pleasure horse. Should mature in the 15.0 to 15.1 hh range (already 15 hh).
Justice will be offered for sale in July, 2010

Artuur and Raabu

RaabuRaabu
Raabu

Artuur, a coming 4 year-old Arabian gelding with his student trainer Mark. Mark, a 54 year-old Fort Collins resident has always wanted to cultivate his "inner cowboy". He's getting that chance with Artuur.
Artuur
Artuur

Artuur and his half brother Raabu are purebred Arabians most likely of European bloodlines. They are not small, dainty horses. Although 4 years old, they are still growing and already are as tall or taller than the stock horses they live with. These youngsters had been neglected in the past and may take another couple of years to gain their full potential in growth. For the past year they have been living at a horse rescue facility. Here they gained the weight they needed after having been starved. They have been handled a little bit but have had very little training. They are typical Arabs in every way other than size. They are gorgeous movers and very athletic. Here are our speed event prospects. These two will need more hands on training as they haven't been handled as much as the other youngsters in the program. They like people though so I'm not worried about how they will get along. They'll be fine. Just don't expect a trustworthy trail horse after only three months of training. Thse two are already over 14 hh with Raabu pushing 14.2. They should continue to grow for at least another year, maybe two. It wouldn't surprise me if Artuur went to 14.3 or 15 hh and Raabu topped 15 hh.
Artuur and Raabu will be offered for sale in September, 2010

Zeus

ZeusZeus

This sooty buckskin gelding is big-boned, registered breeding stock Paint. He'll be four years-old in the spring and ready to go catch cows after training. A very handsome horse, Zeus is still working on the concept of what people are all about. He's not a pocket pony nor does he really respond much to people. He's most likely to be one of those horses that wants to do his job, be taken care of, fed well, watered, and then left alone. We'll see. Maybe he just hasn't met the right person yet. Should go to 15 hh and very stocky.
Zeus will be offered for sale in July, 2010
