| We had an unfortunate event at the ranch this winter. The baby pigs decided to be born on the coldest night we've had in many years. It was 12 degrees below zero when they were born. We lost many of them but a few survived. We had to act quickly. Taking the little piggies from their exhausted mama, we took them inside the house, bathed them in warm water and then used a hair dryer to bring their body temperature up to normal. Seven little piggies had their first experience with a mother's love when our American Bulldog, Peaches, decided they were her babies. We couldn't let her keep them as she was two weeks into her own pregnancy and we didn't want to risk her pregnancy by allowing her to nurse these babies. Although she didn't have any milk at the time, I knew she would develop it and nurse them if we gave her enough time with them, possibly ending her pregnancy. So, Mama Peaches only had "foster" babies for a few hours. But, in that few hours, those baby pigs were very well pampered. |

worried, they just didn't smell right!

with the blow dryer before given to her to take care of.
